Colorful Baby Reading Corner

I love the calm, neutral tones of Montessori space, but I also know I couldn’t live without color. While Montessori brings focus and intention to children’s environments, there’s also so much beauty and benefit in cheerful, colorful spaces. I’ve always loved color, rainbows especially. One of my favorite childhood memories is the rainbow parachute from school, and I feel that same sense of joy every time I walk into my baby’s colorful room. This reading corner is our happy place. Full of books, bright art, and playful details. It’s busy in the best way, with a tall bookshelf stacked high with stories, shelves filled with toys, and a corner made for reading, exploring, and imagination.

Here is our cozy recliner helping us create the perfect spot for story time. The wall is filled with playful details including airplane wall stickers that add movement and imagination, a colorful wall hanging alphabet with animal puppet fingers for interactive learning, and a Story Time garland that gently frames the space. Though this corner is full of color and activity, it still feels inviting and purposeful.

Keeping the shelf full but thoughtful allows this corner to feel lively and loved. Our tall bookshelf may be simple and white, but it’s filled with so much character. It holds around 80 books, with a few displayed facing forward to invite curiosity and make choosing a story feel easy and exciting. Sparking imagination with a small selection of simple toys and figurines gently placed around the books. And last but not least our, favorite little lamp. This lamp was a $15 swap meet find, but there are so many fun, playful options on Amazon too. They add so much character to rooms and bring everything together.
